  • That minors within cults or high demand organizations are protected from abuse and exploitation and that their rights are respected and protected.
  • That those who choose to leave a cult or high demand organization have a support structure throughout the transitional period.

Guiding Principles and Values

Safe Passage Foundation adheres to the following core values which are reflected in the way we work toward our goals, with each other and within the community.

Integrity and Transparency

We commit to the highest standards of conduct and ethical practice in all of our endeavors. In all organizational decisions and operations, we maintain a commitment to accountability, integrity and transparency.

Advocacy

In all matters pertaining to minors in high demand organizations, SPF will advocate exclusively in the best interests of the children. We are committed to the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and believe that those rights extend to minors within cults or high demand organizations.

Accountability and Responsibility

We demonstrate personal and collective accountability and responsibility in all of our programs.

Non-Discrimination

We are committed to the values of non-discrimination and equality. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, gender or for any other reason. We abide by this value within our own organization as well as with our clients, partners, donors and consultants.

Cultural Sensitivity and Respect for Diversity

We are committed to respect for diversity and alternate cultures. We respect the rights of individuals to practice their faith and the right of children to be raised in the culture and faith of their parents, as long as such practices do not violate the rights of the children.

Support through Empowerment

We are committed to the empowerment of children and youth raised in high demand organizations through:

  • The provision of tools and resources to enable a successful transition into society and providing youth with the means to contribute to their communities
  • That children and youth raised in cults have the right to participate in decisions affecting them.
  • That persons raised in cults have the right to speak out about their lives and experiences and that their voices have the right to be heard
  • In our organization and in our operations, encouraging participation and leadership by experiential youth and adults

Innovation

We create an environment where initiative and creativity flourishes. We encourage innovation and provide the tools and support for successful risk management and effective results.

Confidentiality

We are committed to protecting the confidentiality of those we support. We do not disclose any confidential information without the direct consent of the individual or unless legally required to do so.
